These are not just ordinary triplets. They are three newborn baby girls who have succeeded in undergoing one of the riskiest humanitarian journeys within their mothers’ bodies. Having a fetus with two others in the mother’s womb means the possibility of death in the worst cases or premature birth in the best cases. However, these triplets saw the light yesterday at the Al-Ikhaa Specialized Hospital, successfully completing a 35-week pregnancy journey, which is an ideal duration for a multiple pregnancy.
Dr. Manal Zahran, who supervised the resuscitation of our little girls, says: “The patient came to us with a rupture of the amniotic fluid, and immediately the specialist obstetrician made the decision to perform an emergency cesarean section. I was present to receive the three newborns and provide them with resuscitation if needed. It was a critical moment where we raced against time to save three little lives.”
The doctor continues: “Indeed, the first two babies did not require any resuscitation, while we noticed cyanosis and a slowing pulse in the third baby, who needed positive pressure ventilation for only thirty seconds. Afterward, we transferred the three babies to the neonatal intensive care unit, where one of the babies needed to be placed on a CPAP machine to support her breathing, and the second baby experienced low blood sugar. The third baby was accepted for monitoring.”
