What is Qurbani?
It means sacrifice. Every year in the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims slaughter an animal – a sheep, goat, cow or camel – this to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of God. So Qurbani is one of the rituals of God.

Which animals are suitable for Qurbani?
The animals used for Qurbani are sheep, cows, goats and camels.
Sheep Qurbani
- This is for one person only.
- It must be more than a 8 month old.
Goat Qurbani
- This is for one person only.
- It must be more than one year old.
Cow Qurbani
Cow Qurbani can be split between seven individual, and should be healthy.
Camel Qurbani
- The Qurbani camel must be healthy, It should also not have given birth to any progeny within the last five years.
- Camel Qurbani can be split between seven individuals, (friends, family).
