Millions of refugees, primarily women and children, live in camps and dilapidated dwellings that don’t protect them from the bitter cold or extreme heat after they fled the war to save the lives of their children and theirs too.

Today, one of their biggest dreams is to have a sturdy tent as their new home!

Why Donate a New Tent?

Although many old tents are in the refugee camps, most need to be replaced because they are eroding and worn out due to harsh climatic factors, meaning that these tents are at risk of collapsing due to strong winds and floods at any time.

In addition to the constant arrival of more refugees to the camps, with every battle taking place in their areas of residence, this is what makes the urgent need to donate new tents to accommodate them.

Kind of Tents are Needed in Refugees Camps

The entire refugee camps are based on tents, and there are rarely some buildings or prefabricated rooms. The most prominent types of tents needed are:

  • Family Tent: These cramped tents house an entire family, as refugee parents want a safe place to shelter their children.
  • Medical Tent: The refugee camp must contain clinics or medical points to deal with and treat sudden cases of injury and present vaccinations and psychological treatments.
  • Educational Tent: Millions of school-age refugee children inside the camps have been cut off from education since they fled their homes, and some agencies are working to provide educational services inside the tents.

How Refugees Use Tents in the Camps

Imagine a whole house in a tent! That is literally the situation in refugee camps, where family members perform their various activities within this narrow space, and the lucky ones can divide their tent into several sections using an Inner partition.

The fathers and children all sleep inside the tent on Mattresses attached. The women divide an area of (2) square meters as a kitchen to prepare food; As for the children, they eat and play inside the tent, and thus these tents serve as a kitchen, a bedroom, a dining room, and a children’s room at the same time.

Other Items are Needed

What happens after the refugee gets a tent? Is this enough? Of course not. While we live in our warm homes, which contain all the elegant pieces of furniture, the refugees lack the minimum necessities of life. Some items that must be present in the tents are:

Insulating Mats

The refugee tents are installed directly on the dirt floor, and the lucky ones have a concrete slab under their tent, and in both cases, they need an insulating mat, which protects them a little from the winter cold.

Floor Protection (for the Wooden Stove)

Most refugees depend on stoves that work on wood or fuel, if available, but these metal stoves may pose a risk that could lead to fires, so they need to put floor protection under the stove, as it’s made of solid and heat-resistant materials.

Blankets

In light of the significant shortage of fuel and firewood, the importance of blankets appears for the camp residents, as they are considered somewhat cheap. Still, their role is essential and sustainable, so they are one of the most necessary items, especially on winter nights.

Plastic Rain Insulating

These insulating plastic covers play a tremendous role in protecting tents from rain and snow disasters. They also provide some warmth inside the tent because they repel raging winds.

Inner Partition

These pieces of Inner partition are used to divide the large family tent, or medical tent, into several different sections, providing privacy and investing the entire tent area. They can also be easily disassembled and installed.

Heaters

Donating heaters to refugee camps can save the lives of children and elderly who die from cold, especially on rough winter days. It also has other benefits, such as cooking, making bread, and drying clothes.

Donate a Tent For Refugees

Indeed, you cannot help all the refugees, but your donation of one tent may save the life of an entire family from death and restore part of a decent life. You can lend a helping hand through many charitable foundations that seek to secure refugee camp supplies such as tents and clothes, like SEMA Organization.

Take the initiative now to help them in the tragedy of this terrifying winter.
