A 61-year-old female patient visited the general surgery clinic with persistent abdominal pain around the navel, lasting for three months and radiating to the back, accompanied by loss of appetite, weight loss, and general fatigue.
Following examinations, a large retroperitoneal mass measuring 12×12×7 cm was identified, pressing on the pancreas, sections of the intestine, the aorta, and the right renal artery, and displacing the inferior vena cava.
A complex surgery was performed by a distinguished medical team led by Dr. Hossam Debes, General Surgery Specialist; Dr. Wael Habib, Vascular Surgery Specialist; and Dr. Mustafa Harba, Urological Surgery Specialist.
During the surgery, the doctors carefully separated the mass from surrounding organs and successfully removed it, despite its invasion of the right renal artery and the left renal vein.
The patient was transferred to intensive care for several days before being moved to the hospital wing and later discharged home, after confirming kidney function recovery and her general condition improvement.
We wish the patient a speedy recovery and good health, especially as the biopsy results confirmed the mass to be a highly malignant tumor.
This operation is one of the largest and most complex surgeries due to the mass’s size and its critical location near major organs and blood vessels. The procedure required exceptional skill and coordination among multiple medical teams to ensure the mass’s removal without damaging nearby organs, reflecting the high level of effort and expertise invested by the surgical team to achieve this remarkable success.
