Imagine the heart-wrenching reality of waking up each day uncertain of securing the next meal or witnessing your child’s tears due to hunger. More than 4 million people in northwestern Syria, including two million dwelling in tents, face these harrowing challenges daily.

Allah (SWT) said about His righteous servants:

“and give food—despite their desire for it—to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, ˹saying to themselves,˺ “We feed you only for the sake of Allah, seeking neither reward nor thanks from you.” [Al-Insan 76:8-9].

This article sheds light on the criticality of food aid for Syrian families during Ramadan. It underscores the profound virtue of offering sustenance to break their fasts during this sacred month.

Ramadan Meal Packs: Bringing Joy and Nourishment to Syrian Families

Ramadan means to Syrian Families

The devastation of war In Syria has led to countless orphans, widows, and those who have lost their primary means of sustenance.

For these families, survival hinges on dwindling donation funds as they grapple with daily hardships.

Amidst these challenges, the arrival of Ramadan brings a surge of charitable contributions, offering a glimmer of joy and hope to their otherwise complex lives.

Allah SWT said in the holy Quran:

They ask you ˹O Prophet in˺ what ˹way˺ they should donate. Say, “Whatever donations you give are for parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, and ˹needy˺ travellers. Whatever good you do is certainly well known to Allah.” [Al-Baqarah 2:215].

The Impact of Ramadan Meal Packs

Our Ramadan Meal Packs aim to provide sustenance and a balanced and nutritious assortment of food items essential for the health and well-being of the beneficiaries.

A healthy and diverse selection of foodstuffs constitutes these packs, ensuring sufficient calories and vital nutrients for those receiving them.

These meticulously arranged baskets incorporate vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt.

Additionally, to support energy levels during fasting periods, the packs may contain items such as dates, honey, jams, and halva, serving as essential supplements.

Abdullah bin’ Amr bin Al-‘as reported: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), “Which act in Islam is the best?” He (PBUH) replied:

“To feed (the poor and the needy) and to greet those whom you know and those you do not know.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Challenges and Solutions

In conflict regions like refugee camps, the delivery logistics for meal packages pose immense challenges. Families and groups enduring hardship lack access to necessities, facing continuous shortages of electricity, water, gas, and food supplies.

This dire situation makes daily sustenance a significant struggle. To address these challenges, relief organizations like SEMA set up mobile kitchens during Ramadan.

These kitchens become crucial solutions, providing pre-prepared meals to remote and inaccessible areas where refugee and displaced persons camps are located.

By offering nutritious meals containing essential elements such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fibers, these kitchens alleviate the burden on families, ensuring around 400 to 500 meals are distributed daily throughout Ramadan.
